During the weekend just ended, the first round of the CMAS Finswimming World Cup 2024, a decades-long series of official competitions of the World Underwater Confederation, took place in the city of Aix en Provence (France). 523 finswimmers in total, 93 different clubs coming from 18 countries.
First of all, it should be noted that this is the first international event at a very high level after last season. So we can assume that no one expected any particular performances.
I don’t want to go into the merits of the results for this very reason, even though there were two World Records in a really brand new race, the 200 meters immersion. We want to remind that CMAS decided to take off 800 meters immersion and include the 75% shorter one, 200 meters immersion indeed. Certainly more spectacular than the previous one in terms of speed.
I want instead to talk about the way we have perceived the event from home. I think it has been one of the most involving CMAS World Cup rounds ever, because of many reasons.
One above all the great French guys always talking behind the microphones, commenting every single heat and interviewing a lot of finswimmers for all the 5 sessions. A really great job! I’ve spent all two and half days following it from home, very very good! Not boring at all!
We would like to thank these crew: @morgane.rz and @lucie_p10, @enzojaco and @more.sport.uwh.official
The streaming video also was superb, great quality, very professional shots. For me it was like to be there in the swimming pool.
Then the real time results system was perfect. Everything was clear and immediate. And the PDF final results is also full of information and statistics.
I’ve loved almost everything, almost.
The only thing that was a little bit annoying, as always I think, is the fragmentation of the information. Everything was in a different place, streaming – one on the youtube one on the facebook, real time results page – linked on the FFESSM web site, starting lists – on the CMAS Web Page. But not a big problem. Maybe it could be more comfortable to have all the information in a single platform.
After all, from home I can say that it has been a very captivating Finswimming event.
Of course everything is IMHO, so, what do you think about?
