On November 4th, the city of Krasnoyarsk in the Krasnoyarsk region hosted the annual underwater sports event “Day of the Rabbit” at the SibSU 50-meter swimming pool. This regional competition celebrated the sport of finswimming, attracting young talents and seasoned athletes alike to compete in various age and skill categories.
This year’s “Day of the Rabbit” event was highly anticipated, drawing swimmers from various clubs across the region, including notable clubs such as “Avangard,” “Dianema,” and “Sputnik.” These clubs brought their top finswimmers to participate in races across multiple distances, such as 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters, using both classic and bifin styles.
In the 100-meter classic fin category, the competition was fierce among young female athletes. Tatiana Zhukova from “Avangard” led her category with an impressive time of 51.95 seconds, earning a Candidate for Master of Sport (CMS) ranking. Meanwhile, Maria Gorokhova from the “Sputnik”-“Avangard” club closely followed with a time of 53.44 seconds, also achieving CMS status. Both swimmers showcased exceptional technique and speed, with Tatiana Zhukova setting a strong example for her peers.
Junior competitors in the 200-meter event also displayed exceptional performances. Among the highlights was Veronika Formova from “Dianema,” who finished the distance in 1:55.59, a CMS-level performance that underscored her skill and endurance in finswimming. Similarly, junior male athletes showcased competitive times, with Sergey Skuratov of SibSU clocking in at 44.12 seconds in the 100 meters, achieving CMS status in his age division.
The event also had a strong showing in the 50-meter race. For the younger athletes, this sprinting category served as a test of both speed and technique, with close finishes in each heat. In the boys’ division, Fedor Lukashkov from the “Vityaz” club tied with Makar Pavlich from “KSSH” Achinsk, both clocking an impressive 23.43 seconds, marking them as emerging talents in the finswimming community.
Across all age groups, the participants in “Day of the Rabbit” were evaluated based on rigorous standards for ranks, with some competitors achieving CMS rankings, while others reached distinctions such as First Class and Second Class. This ranking system is designed to recognize and motivate athletes at all levels, encouraging continual improvement and dedication to the sport.
The “Day of the Rabbit” competition provided not only a platform for personal achievement but also an opportunity for clubs to showcase their development programs. Clubs like “Dianema,” “Avangard,” and “Sputnik” contributed significantly to the competitive atmosphere, with their swimmers regularly placing in top positions.
