Two Exciting Finswimming Events in December 2024: The III Copa Femenina Iberdrola and the Control Federativo Pre-Selección FEDAS
Finswimming enthusiasts will have their eyes on Zaragoza, Spain, in December 2024 as two highly anticipated competitions, the III Copa Femenina Iberdrola and the Control Federativo Pre-Selección FEDAS, take place. These events are not only showcases of athletic excellence but also play a key role in shaping the future of finswimming in Spain.
III Copa Femenina Iberdrola: A Showcase of Women’s Talent
The III Copa Femenina Iberdrola, scheduled for December 21 and 22, 2024, is a major event in the Spanish finswimming calendar, focusing exclusively on female athletes. Organized by the Federación Española de Actividades Subacuáticas (FEDAS) in collaboration with the Federación Aragonesa de Actividades Subacuáticas (FARAS), this competition is set to take place at the CD Stadium Casablanca in Zaragoza, in a 50-meter, eight-lane indoor pool with a comfortable water temperature of 28°C.
The event will feature participants in the Absolute category, with athletes competing in individual finswimming and immersion speed disciplines. The competition’s structure includes a rigorous selection process, as athletes need to meet specific qualifying times. For instance, the minimum time for the 50m surface swim (SF) is 23.30 seconds, while the 100m immersion speed (IM) has a cut-off at 55.50 seconds.
SESSION 1:
Control Federativo Pre-Selección FEDAS: Pre-Senior and Senior Categories
Simultaneously, Zaragoza will host the Control Federativo Pre-Selección FEDAS, which serves as a critical selection event for Spain’s top finswimmers. This event, also taking place from December 21 to 22, 2024, is designed for Pre-Senior and Senior categories. Athletes born in 2007 or later compete in the Pre-Senior category, while those born in 2006 or earlier race in the Senior category.
Like the III Copa Femenina Iberdrola, the Control Federativo will be held at the CD Stadium Casablanca in Zaragoza. This event is highly competitive, with finswimmers required to meet strict qualifying standards, including times like 20.50 seconds for the 50m SF (for men) and 23.30 seconds for the 50m SF (for women).
The importance of the Control Federativo cannot be overstated. It functions as a pre-selection event, meaning that results from this competition will heavily influence which athletes are selected to represent Spain in upcoming international competitions. Only athletes who rank well in the 2023-2024 FEDAS rankings and meet the rigorous time standards will be eligible to participate.
Additionally, like the Copa Femenina, this event will award commemorative diplomas to the top eight finishers in each category and discipline. The final rankings will be based on the best two scores from each athlete, determined according to the CMAS (World Underwater Federation) point tables, which have been adapted to Spanish records for 50-meter pools.
A Weekend of High-Performance Finswimming
Both the III Copa Femenina Iberdrola and the Control Federativo Pre-Selección FEDAS promise to be highly competitive and important events in the finswimming world. They not only provide a platform for Spain’s best finswimmers to showcase their talents but also serve as critical stepping stones for athletes aiming to represent Spain at the international level. For finswimming fans and athletes alike, December 21 and 22, 2024, in Zaragoza will undoubtedly be a weekend to remember.
