From October 25 to 28, 2024, the MBU SSH “Burevestnik” in Kropotkin, located in the Krasnodar region of Russia, hosted two significant events in the underwater sports domain: the Cup of Krasnodar Region for underwater sports and the Open Championship of the Kavkazsky District. Both competitions focused on finswimming, a demanding underwater sport that requires athletes to cover various distances using fins for propulsion, demonstrating both endurance and speed.
Overview of the Competitions
The Cup of Krasnodar Region and the Open Championship of the Kavkazsky District attracted numerous participants across age groups and skill levels, showcasing local talents and allowing experienced competitors to demonstrate advanced skills in finswimming. Held in a 50-meter pool, the events incorporated several categories based on age, gender, and skill level. The disciplines included the 50m, 100m, and 400m finswimming events, where competitors raced using traditional fins, mono-fins, or bi-fins, depending on the category requirements.
Notably, these competitions involved diverse participant levels, from Junior Swimmers (with classification ranks like III and II) to Candidates for Master of Sports (KMS) and even Master of Sports (MS) rank athletes, highlighting the sport’s depth in the region. These ranks are awarded based on athletes’ performance and time achievements, with higher ranks denoting greater experience and skill.
