On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the city of Modena will host the prestigious 38th Pinnuotata della Ghirlandina, a major national finswimming competition that also serves as the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Regional Championship and the Regional Paralympic Finswimming Championship. Organized by A.S.D. Nuoto Sub Modena Bruno Loschi under the patronage of FIPSAS, the Province of Modena, and the Municipality of Modena, the event will bring together athletes from across Italy for a full day of high-level competition.
Events and Categories
The competition will take place at the “Dogali” Municipal Pool, a 50-meter outdoor facility with eight lanes. The event welcomes athletes across multiple categories:

Assoluti (Senior) – Featuring races in monofin, bifins, apnea, and surface with CMAS regulations, from 50m to 800m.

Youth (1st, 2nd, 3rd categories) – Competing in similar distances with and without CMAS affiliation.

Masters – Divided into Under-49 and Over-50, with CMAS events and a mixed 4×50 relay.

Esordienti (Beginners) – Subdivided into A1/A2 and B1/B2, competing in 50m and 100m distances.

Paralympic – Including athletes with physical, intellectual-relational, and sensory disabilities, with events adapted to their needs, such as promotional and non-competitive races.
Notably, each athlete may participate in unlimited individual events but only one relay.
Schedule Highlights

Morning session (starts 9:00 AM): Includes short-distance races, 800m Monofin, and several 200m events.

Afternoon session (starts 3:00 PM): Features 100m and 400m races and concludes with the mixed 4x50m relays and the closing ceremony at 7:30 PM.
Warm-ups begin at 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM respectively for each session, segmented by athlete category.
Registration and Participation
Entries must be submitted using the official FIPSAS registration form by May 15, 2025, along with payment via bank transfer. All participants must hold a valid FIPSAS membership, a current competitive medical certificate, and a copy of their ID.

Fee structure: €5 per athlete/event, €12 per relay, plus a €15 per club fee.

Late entries may be accepted with a €50 administrative surcharge.
Equipment and Safety
All equipment must conform to FIPSAS and CMAS Italy standards. Cylinder refills are available with compatible adapters. Swim caps are mandatory per Modena’s municipal pool regulations.
Judging and Timing
The competition will be officiated by certified FIPSAS judges, and times will be recorded electronically by the Italian Federation of Timekeepers (Modena division).

Medals for the top three finishers in each individual and relay event.

Special trophies for the best male and female athletes in Under 18, Senior, and Paralympic divisions, based on the sum of their top three placements.

Club awards including the Pinnuotata della Ghirlandina Trophy and medals for the top three clubs overall.
