Yesterday, October 12th 2021, the well known italian finswimmer Stefano Figini, got the Collare d’oro al merito sportivo, to recognize all his sporting achievements and medals at international championships.
What is the Collare d’oro al merito sportivo?
The Collare d’oro al merito sportivo, (translated: golden collar of sporting merit) is the highest among the honors of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI)
The gold collar of sporting merit is awarded to:
- Italian athletes who have achieved results or titles established by the council of CONI such as victory in Olympic trials and world championships sports executives who have honored
- Italian sport managers for over 40 years and already in possession of the gold star for sporting merit sports
- Clubs with a seniority of at least 100 years and already in possession of the gold star for sporting merit.
The gold collar of sporting merit can only be granted once during the course of the sporting career. Those who are awarded the gold collar cannot receive lower rank honors. If an athlete, manager or club deserves the gold collar for the second time, a diploma of honor is awarded, consisting of a plaque on which the gold collar is reproduced.
